An early game drought turned into a second-half flood of points for the Sturgeon Bay Clippers as they beat the Gibraltar Vikings 66-40 Friday night in Fish Creek.
Neither team could get their offense off the ground early in the first half as the Vikings were able to hold the Clippers scoreless for nearly seven minutes, only to produce six points during that span on buckets from Kayin Jackson, Jeffrey Mize, and Aaron Brey. After Jackson Starr broke the scoreless stretch, Benjamin Ash took over as he knocked down three threes en route to a 11-point first half. The Clippers returned the favor to the Vikings defensively, holding their hosts to just seven points during the final 10 minutes as they took a 23-15 lead into the locker room.
The Clippers' offense barraged the Vikings with seven three-pointers in the second half, four of which came off the fingertips of Hayden Tracy as he scored 14 of his team-high 16 points in the second half. The Vikings did what they could to keep pace with Brey, Liam Lindenberg, and Luke Rericha hitting shots from behind the arc, but ultimately missed too many shots underneath to keep up with the Clippers.
In addition to Tracy's 16 points, Ash scored 14 points and Starr added 11 points in the Clippers' win ahead of their matchup against Kewaunee.
The Vikings were led by Jackson's 11 points with Mize dumping in six points while Brey and Lindenberg each added five points. The Vikings will host Algoma for senior night on Monday. Tim Kowols will have the call on 105.1 The GOAT and NEWRadioSportsNetwork.com beginning at 6:45 p.m. with the pregame show followed by the opening tip at 7 p.m.
