The Sturgeon Bay Clippers soccer team is one step closer to a return to the state tournament in Milwaukee after defeating conference rival Gibraltar/Sevastopol 4-0 at Clark Field Thursday night.
Three different Wienkes scored in the match with Daniel Wienke (26th minute) and Zone Wienke (32nd) stacking a 2-0 advantage over the United by halftime. Meanwhile, the Clippers limited the United's offensive chances all night long as they made climbing the 2-0 hill hard if not impossible. The Clippers put the match out of reach late with tallies from Simon Downey (56th minute) and Kemal Wienke (73rd minute).
The Clippers will try to avenge an early season loss to Kiel when they battle them at St. Mary Catholic at 1 p.m. The match will be carried live tentatively on U-102.1, but follow the NEW Radio Sports Network for updated broadcast details.
