The Door County United girls swim team remains undefeated in conference match-ups for the 2024 season, becoming the 2024 Bay Conference champions for the 5th consecutive year.
The team won the conference meet on Thursday, October 31st, which placed them in front of the second-place team, Wittenberg Birnamwood High School. The overall score of the evening was 486 points to Wittenberg’s 429. The team was highly successful, with many first and second-team all-conference titles. There were also multiple honorable mentions of the evening (see below). Stand-out swimmers included a junior from Southern Door High School, Kailyn Neville, who was first-team all-conference in her evening events.
Additionally, senior Caitlyn Hasenjager from Sevastopol High School was second-team all-conference in the 200-yard individual medley and honorable mention in the 100-yard breaststroke. Senior Isabella Jimenez Seyfer (SBHS) was second-team all-conference in the 100-yard butterfly with the best time of the season, 1:06.94. Freshmen Amelia Michalski (SBHS) and Megan Quaderer (SBHS) show great promise for future seasons. Amelia finished 4th in the 200-yard freestyle and 6th in the 100-yard breaststroke. Megan finished second-team all-conference in the 500 freestyle and 4th in the 100-yard freestyle. Junior varsity swimmers competed in this meet, finishing second to New London High School. Rachel Rock (SEV) finished second in the 100-yard freestyle with a best time 1:24.37. Maria Wienke (SBHS) finished first overall in the 100-yard breaststroke at 1:41.82. Finally, Anika Steinbach, a Sturgeon Bay High School senior, was awarded Bay Conference Senior of the Year for her contributions to the team this year. Anika was a silent leader on the team, helping her peers in the pool and at school.
The varsity swimmers will prepare to swim at Ashwaubenon High School on Saturday, November 9th, in the Sectional Meet for Division II and determine if any swimmers will get the chance to compete at the state meet on Friday, November 15th.
