In an early-season Parents Night game that was tied scoreless at the half-way mark, the Sturgeon Bay Clippers and Antigo Red Robins traded shots in the second half. Antigo made a final stand, taking the single-score victory 27-20 Friday night in Sturgeon Bay.
The Red Robins started with a great field position after a failed onside kick by the Clippers to open the second half. A 4-yard rush by Grant Praslowicz capped off that drive. Following an interception by Patrick Haese, Antigo quarterback Colton Thomae ran one in from 65 yards out on 3rd and 5, setting them up with a 13-0 lead. The Clippers were not ready to surrender. Caleb Plzak found Patrick Haese in the end zone from 14 yards out for the first Clippers score. Bryce Plzak would catch the two-point attempt after being tipped by an Antigo defender. On the next Clipper possession, Haese would carry one in from 4 yards out, taking the lead 14-13.
The teams would trade scores the rest of the way. Antigo's Grant Praslowicz would score his second touchdown via a 66-yard reception to jump up 21-13. The Clippers would answer with a Caleb Plzak to Bryce Plzak 30-yard catch TD but were left trailing after a failed 2-point attempt by Haese. Antigo would add to the lead with a Thomae 26-yard rush.
The Clippers would have the ball with under 2 minutes to go in Red Robin territory but fell short on a 4th down rush by Haese, giving Antigo the ball back with less than a minute to drain and not enough timeouts to work with.
Sturgeon Bay's next game will be next Friday night as they host Marinette.
