Clippers soccer has breakthrough vs. Sevastopol/Gibraltar

Sturgeon Bay notched its first conference win, 2-0, over the Sevastopol/Gibraltar United team Thursday night at Clark Field.

It was a perfect night for soccer. SB outshot the United team 14-4. Malaya Martinez scored Sturgeon Bay's goals in the 4th and 50th minutes.

"We are finally starting to create better chances to score by getting the ball into dangerous spaces in front of our opponent's goal.  Mal Martinez played really well tonight at forward, as did our entire midfield, and Maddie Hemminger was brilliant on defense.  Playing DC United is always a tough win for anyone in the Packerland Conference.  We have played a lot of larger schools to prepare for our conference schedule this year, and it has improved our speed of play."

The Clippers' next game is on the road against Appleton North on Friday night. The Lightning enter the matchup 2-1-0 after beating Neenah earlier in the week 2-1.
