Clippers baseball earns doubleheader split vs. Blue Devils

The Sturgeon Bay Clippers baseball team beat the Oconto Blue Devils 10-4 in the first of two games against the Oconto Blue Devils, only to lose 6-3 in the nightcap.

In game one, the Clippers set the tone with three runs in the first inning before shutting the door completely in the sixth with five more runs as five players had at least two hits. Curt Meyer and Garrett Ulberg each drove in three runs in the win.

In game two, both teams scored two runs in the opening frame, but the Blue Devils scored single tallies in the second and third innings to help lead them to victory. Two errors plagued the Clippers as only two of the Blue Devils' six runs. Meyer and Brady Kollath each drove in a run and Bryce Plzak joined them in recording a two-hit performance.

"We played well in game one tonight and did some positive things. Oconto is a good team, and anytime you can defeat them soundly it's a step forward," said Coach Neal Henrigillis after the two-game set.  "We could have taken both halves of the doubleheader but couldn't stay mentally focused enough in game two and let blunders get the best of us. Regardless it was a good early season test for our team."
