Sturgeon Bay girls road trip to Tomahawk for WIAA opener

The Sturgeon Bay Lady Clippers hope to go the distance for a W in their opening-round matchup at Tomahawk Tuesday night.

The tenth-seeded Clippers have lost seven games in a row, last beating Peshtigo on January 25th. Dasha Yeltysheva has kept the Clippers in many of their games this season, averaging 14.2 ppg, with Cady Carlson and Regan Kasten each adding about six points per game. The Clippers lost to NEW Lutheran 41-28 in their last game before the tournament.

The Hatchets enter the tournament not much better than the Clippers with a 7-17 mark, which includes a winless run in the Great Northern Conference. They have lost three straight games, not exceeding 40 points in any of them. The Hatchets do boast balanced scoring with Freya Alberg (10.2 ppg), Claire Albert (9.4 ppg), and Khianna Vacho (9.0 ppg), all within a point of each other with their scoring average.

Tip-off is set for 6 p.m., one hour earlier than most of the WIAA Tournament field.
