Tjernagel-led Clippers girls open season at Chilton

The Sturgeon Bay girls' basketball team gets their season underway Thursday night with a road contest against Chilton.

The Clippers are looking to rebound from a season that saw them go 2-22 on the year, including a winless Packerland mark and a first-round exit to Clintonville in the WIAA Tournament. Leading the Clippers is a familiar face to those in the district, with Dan Tjernagel stepping into the role shortly before the first practice. The district's superintendent, coaching at the high school level again is a role Tjernagel is looking forward to tackling. He will do so without the team's top scorer, Autumn Rass, who graduated last year.

The Tigers, which beat the Clippers to open last season, went 13-10 in the 2022-2023 season, falling to Denmark in the regional round of the WIAA Tournament. The team welcomes back its leading scorer, Adahlyn Hoerl, who averaged 15.5 points as a sophomore last year.

Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. in Chilton.
