DCU coach reflects on state meet

The Door County United Girls High School swim team finished the fall 2023 season by placing 10th overall at the Division 2 state meet on Friday, November 10th.

 

Julia Michalski (SBHS) finished 9th in the 100-yard backstroke and 16th in the 200-yard individual medley. Her 100-yard backstroke time of 1:00.97 is the 2nd fastest in the program’s history. Kailyn Neville (SDHS) finished 13th in the 200 and 500-yard freestyle. She dropped 2 seconds in the 200-yard freestyle and 4 in the 500-yard freestyle. Cassie Rankin (SEV) finished 8th in the 200-yard freestyle with a finishing time of 1:58.77. This was the first time she completed this event in under 2 minutes. This additionally is the 2nd fastest 200-yard freestyle in the program’s history.  She also finished 6th in the 500-yard freestyle, which earned her a medal and some time on the podium at state. Her time of 5:23.04 was 10 seconds faster than her seedtime and 4th fastest in the program's history. The 200-yard medley relay consisting of Julia Michalski (SBHS), Danica Neville (SDHS), Isabella Jimenez Seyfer (SBHS), and Caitlyn Hasenjager (SEV) finished 8th overall with a time of 1:53.51. This relay also finished three places above the other qualifying team from their conference, Wittenberg Birnamwood. The 200-yard freestyle relay finished 11th overall with a time of 1:43.88. The members of this relay, Cassie Rankin (SEV), Danica Neville (SDHS), Natalia Michalski (SBHS), and Caitlyn Hasenjager (SEV), all swam their individual 50 freestyles in 26 seconds or less. The final qualifying relay was the 400-yard freestyle relay. Cassie Rankin (SEV), Kailyn Neville (SDHS), Natalia Michalsk (SBHS), and Julia Michalski (SBHS) finished 9th overall to round out the meet.
