Sturgeon Bay, Luxemburg-Casco cross country head to Valders

Sturgeon Bay and Luxemburg-Casco will get their hill work in on a tough cross country when they compete at an invitational hosted by Valders on Thursday.

The Clippers and Spartans will also face Brillion, Chilton, Denmark, Elkhart Lake-Glenbeulah, Hilbert, Howards Grove, New Holstein, Plymouth, Random Lake, Sheboygan Falls, St. Ignatius, and Valders at the meet when the first race kicks off at 4 p.m.

The Sturgeon Bay Clippers cross country team faced staunch competition across all divisions on Saturday at the Shawano Hawk Invitational. Julia Kurek led the Clippers to a 13th place, 371 point performance among all competing teams. She ran a time of 20:13 to come in 14th overall. Gavin Forest led the competing boys with a 23:43 finish on the 5K course to come in 152nd place. The Clippers did not have enough runners to score as a team.

The Winagamie Golf Course gave way to runners for the second time in five days and the Luxemburg-Casco cross-country team took full advantage of the opportunity on Tuesday. In the boys race, Kyan Lynts was the Spartans' top finisher with a time of 17:49 on the 5K course as the team took third with 70 points behind Pulaski (35) and Ashwaubenon (41).  The girls' team almost won the meet, coming in second place with 44 points and just eight points behind champion St. Mary Catholic. Claire DuChateau continued her super freshman campaign with a first place finish and a 20:15 5K time.
