Sturgeon Bay football opens with home cooking against Waupun on U 102.1

The long wait is over for Sturgeon Bay football players as they open their 2023 campaign at home against Waupun.

The Clippers were welcomed back to 11-player football last year with a 5-5 record. Their local rivals sent the Clippers packing last season as they adjusted to life without its star quarterback Danny Lodl, who was lost for the season in late September with a scary leg injury. They went 0-3 against Southern Door and Kewaunee, losing by a combined score of 161-20. The results did not indicate how potent their offense could be, cracking 40 points in four of their five wins.

The Warriors lost their final seven games after defeating the on-again, off-again 11-player team Menominee Indian in their season opener. Outside of that 54-point performance, the Warriors scored 24 points the rest of the way, including a streak of four games where they got shut out.

Jacob Nate and Reece Robillard will have the call on U 102.1 beginning at 6:45 p.m. followed by the kickoff from Memorial Field at 7 p.m. The game will also be streamed worldwide at u1021.com and NEWRadioSportstNetwork.com.
