Sturgeon Bay baseball visits Shawano for WIAA Tournament opener

The #11 Sturgeon Bay Clippers sail southwest to #6 Shawano for their opening-round matchup at 5 p.m.

The Clippers ended their regular season on a six-game losing streak, including a doubleheader sweep at the hands of Southern Door earlier in the week. In game one, Emmett Braschnewitz was driven in by Jack Henry's RBI bunt single to give Sturgeon Bay the 1-0 lead. The Clippers would add on again in the top of the fifth inning as Bryce Plzak would score after reaching on an error on the shortstop Christian Counard. A single by Brody Kollath would do the trick and the underdog Clippers were leading the Eagles 2-0. They would go on to lose that game 3-2. Sturgeon Bay would get two RBIs from catcher Caleb Plzak in game two late, but the Eagles would answer with two runs of their own to force the 12-2 mercy rule win.
