Clippers softball open up WIAA regional with Valders

The Sturgeon Bay Clippers softball team will look to travel on the road and take a game in the WIAA playoffs when they play visitors to the Valders Vikings in the first round of the postseason.

Sturgeon Bay has begun to find some footing towards the end of the season, splitting the doubleheader with NEW Lutheran/Providence Academy and acquiring two other wins in the span of a week to give the Clippers some positive outcomes. The Clippers and Vikings have two common opponents between the two teams, in Roncalli and Kewaunee. Valders defeated Roncalli twice, 15-7 and 7-1 whereas the Clippers fell 16-1. The Vikings split two games with Kewaunee 5-4 and 3-1 and Sturgeon Bay was blanked by the Storm 15-0 and 10-0.

Valders enters the opening round contest at 10-10 overall and third in the Eastern Wisconsin Conference with a 8-6 record. Last season Valders made a run through the playoffs that ended with a Regional Title win over Chilton before falling to eventual sectional champion Wautoma. The winner of this 8 seed vs 9 seed matchup will take on the top seeded New Holstein Huskies, who are 22-2 overall.

First pitch from Valders is slated for 4:30 p.m.
