Sturgeon Bay soccer holds on against Sevastopol/Gibraltar, play Elkhart Lake-Glenbeulah Friday

In a classic Door County girls soccer match, Sturgeon Bay defeated Sevastopol/Gibraltar 2-1 at Clark Field in Sturgeon Bay. 

 

The Clippers' Shampoo Wienke opened the scoring in the 31st minute, assisted by Alexis Olson.  It would stay that way until late in the second half when at the 77th minute, Paula Wienke drilled a PK to give SB a 2-0 lead. United’s Sam Herrell responded and scored on a corner kick, also in the 77th minute, assisted by Eve Andreae, leading to the final score of 2-1. 

 

Yarrow Goettelman had 6 saves in goal for Sturgeon Bay. The Clippers start its 2023 season 1-0 and travel to host Elkhart Lake-Glenbeulah for a Friday night match at 6 p.m.  The Resorters dropped their first match of the season 2-1 to Ozaukee on Tuesday.
