Baseball: Late inning collapse seals Clippers fate

Sturgeon Bay's Jace Johnson and L-C's Owen Deprez both entered the 5th inning with no-hitters intact, but 3 hits and 2 errors in the bottom of the 5th gave the Spartans a 3-0 lead.

The Clipper defense completely disappeared in the 6th inning when L-C added 6 runs without the benefit of a hit, as 5 errors, 4 walks, 2 passed balls and a wild pitch contributed to the collapse. Johnson's solid effort had seen him yield a mere 3 hits and only 1 earned run.

Deprez with 7th inning relief from Ryan Routhieaux completed the L-C no-hitter, with Deprez walking 2 and striking out 13 in his 6 innings of work.

The opening round tournament defeat ends an extremely trying season for Sturgeon Bay, as 3 Clippers starters suffered season-ending injuries during the course of the 2021 campaign. Sturgeon Bay concludes the year with an 11-11 overall record, and a 4-4 Packerland Conference record.
