Baseball: Late inning dooms Clippers

Sturgeon Bay trailed Bonduel 3-2 going to the 7th inning on Saturday, but a pair of errors resulted in 4 unearned runs for the Bears, while the Clippers were handed 1 unearned run in the bottom of the 7th to create the 7-3 final score. A tight game saw Sturgeon Bay fall short with numerous scoring opportunities, leaving the bases loaded in both the 1st and 2nd innings, while stranding a total of 11 runners for the game. The Clippers outhit the Bears 6-5, but fell short defensively with 7 walks, 2 wild pitches, 2 passed balls and 3 errors.

Carter Henry led Sturgeon Bay's hitting with a 2-3 afternoon, which included an RBI single to tie the game 2-2 in the 3rd inning. Henry also contributed with a solid defensive performance at both 2nd base and 3rd base. Anthony Jennerjohn pitched the first 4 innings, while Jace Johnson came on to toss the final 3 innings, with Jennerjohn taking the loss. As the 5th seed in the Regional Tournament, Sturgeon Bay now travels to play the 4th seed Luxemburg-Casco at 4:30 pm on Thursday. The winner will face the unenviable task of going to Denmark the following Tuesday to face the no. 2 ranked Division 2 team in Wisconsin.
