Drew Price Walk-Off HR Gives Sturgeon Bay Improbable Win Over NEW Lutheran

It started out as a fairly normal baseball game with New Lutheran leading Sturgeon Bay 4-1 going to the bottom of the 4th inning.

A 2-out 2-run single from Emmett Braschnewitz brought the Clippers even at 4 heading to the 5th inning. The wheels then fell off the Clipper bus when 4 walks, 2 hit batters and 4 Blazer hits saw Sturgeon Bay staring at an 11-4 deficit.

However things got interesting in the bottom of the 6th inning when Blazer pitchers walked 5 and hit a batter. Before the smoke cleared, a 2-run Braeden Haines single, followed by a Curt Meyer RBI single had the Clippers within 1 run at 11-10. NEW Lutheran added a run in the top of the 7th inning for a 12-10 lead, but considerably more drama was about to follow. After the first Sturgeon Bay hitter was retired in the bottom of the 7th inning, Carter Henry drew a walk and Emmett Braschnewitz was hit by a pitch. Drew Price then stepped to the plate and delivered his 3rd home run of the season over the left-center field fence for the improbable 13-12 come-from-behind victory.

An outstanding relief performance by Emmett Braschnewitz had kept the Clippers in the game. In his first mound appearance of the 2021 season, Emmett struck out 4 and walked 1 in his 2 2/3 innings of work, allowing 1 run on 1 hit to earn the victory.

The win allows Sturgeon Bay to finish with a Packerland Conference record of 4-4. The Clippers will finish their regular season with an 11 am Saturday home game against Bonduel, with the varsity game to be followed by a JV match-up with Bonduel.
