Clippers Fall One Game Short Of State Tournament Appearance

The Random Lake Sectional provided both peaks and valleys for the Sturgeon Bay baseball team on June 4th. A thrilling 1-0 semi-final victory over Winnebago Lutheran vaulted the Clippers into the Sectional Championship game. The only run of the game came in the bottom of the 5th inning. Jake Schneider's lead-off single was followed by an Isaac Berkley bunt single. With 2-strikes, Reece Nellis lined an RBI single to right field, and Sturgeon Bay had the only run they would need for victory. In his 3rd consecutive tournament shut out, Jake Schneider
tossed a 3-hitter. In another masterful performance, Jake struck out 7 while not issuing a single walk.

The Sectional Championship game saw a strong Ozaukee team score 3 runs on 3 hits in the top of the 1st inning and never look back. The Warriors scored in every inning, resulting in a 13-2 victory, stopped by the 10-run rule after 5 innings. Ozaukee's hitting attack included 11 hits, and was further aided by 5 Clipper errors. Sturgeon Bay scored single runs in the 4th and 5th innings, while only getting 3 hits in the game. Trent Ehlers took the loss, with relief from Isaac
Berkley and Mitchell Jackson.

Not to be lost in the disappointment of a season-ending defeat was a tremendous year which saw the Clippers finish with a (21-8) season record. The thrilling (12-2) run to end the year saw Sturgeon Bay win a 3rd straight Packerland Conference Championship, a Regional Championship, and a Sectional Semi-Final victory. Those sharing in the life-long memories created by this team includes the players, coaches, families, and all fans and followers of
Sturgeon Bay baseball. Your support was much appreciated on this journey, and we thank all who have been a part of this special experience.
