Abeyta's Walk-off Gives Sturgeon Bay Baseball Victory Over Gibraltar

An amazing 6-run rally in the bottom of the 7th inning propelled Sturgeon Bay to an improbable 9-8 victory over Gibraltar. The Clippers crawled off the floor after falling behind 8-0 in the top of the 3rd inning. A 3-run HR from Max Bordeau in the bottom of the 3rd inning cut the Vikings lead to 8-3. That score held until the bottom of the 7th when the magic struck. A lead off walk to Andrew Carbajal was followed by singles from Ryan Jacobson and Trent Ehlers. Bordeau reached on an error, and Jake Schneider's double sliced the lead to 8-6. Isaac Berkley walked to load the bases, and a clutch single from Reece Nellis knotted the game at 8. After an intentional walk to Mitchell Jackson reloaded the bases, Abram Abeyta dropped the game-winning hit deep into the left-field corner. The Clippers had plated 6 runs on 5 hits without a single batter being retired.

Ryan Jacobson led the Clippers with 2-4, while the Vikings were led by a 3-4 night from Sam Lindenburg. Mitchell Jackson earned the win on the mound by tossing 3 shutout innings of 1-hit ball.

A 7th straight win puts Sturgeon Bay at (16-6) for the year and 12-3 in the Packerland Conference.

The Clippers will continue their 4-game home stand with a 5:00pm game against Peshtigo on Friday, followed by an 11:00am Saturday non-conference game with Mishicot on Saturday.
