The Sevastopol baseball team came up just short in its bid to advance in the WIAA Tournament on Thursday, losing at home to Peshtigo 5-2 at home.
The Pioneers were held off the scoreboard until the fifth trailing 3-0. Andrew Wiesner drove in Bo Tanck on a single to make it 2-1 and had two men on before the inning ended on a strike out. After the Bulldogs got their run back on a triple from Bryce Heroux, Jack Haen singled in Chase Haberli to make it a two-run game. The Bulldogs answered the bell again in the seventh to score another run before Heroux retired struck out the final three batters he faced to end the Pioneers' season.
The Pioneers outhit the Bulldogs 8-6 with Wiesner and Reid Kacmarynski each collected two hits. Wiesner took the loss on the mound allowing three runs (1 ER) on four hits while striking out seven across five innings.
The Pioneers end the season with a mark of 9-11-1.
