Sevastopol softball welcomes Southern Door

Southern Door and Sevastopol will duel on the softball diamond Tuesday afternoon when the two teams play a pair in Institute.

 

The Pioneers played a pair of games against NEW Lutheran on Monday, posting 11-1 and 17-1 wins. In game one, the Pioneers scored five runs in the second and four in the fifth to end the game in five innings after outhitting the Blazers 20-8. Leah Schopf dominated the game, going 2-4 with four RBI while going the distance in the circle, allowing one run (0 ER) on eight hits while striking out five. In game two, the Pioneers hung crooked numbers in the three innings played, including eight in the third to end the game early. Shelby Kelsey went 2-2 with a double and four RBI while Schopf banged out three hits and Alaina LeClair drove in two runs.

 

The Southern Door softball team piled up a pair of wins on Saturday, beating Wrightstown 7-0 before beating Chilton 6-5. In their 7-0 shutout of the Tigers, Alanah Kaye kept things in check with a no-hit performance that saw her strikeout 10 batters. Grace Gustschow led the way offensively with a pair of RBI while Madyson Counard, and Kaye also drove in runs. In their 6-5 win over the other Tigers, the two teams traded leads until the eighth inning when Counard singled in MaKayla Bouche to put them ahead before Samantha Melville finished her eight-inning performance with an 1-2-3 inning. Lily Vandertie went 3-4 to lead the Eagles as one of three players with multi-hit performances. Counard, Melville, Gutschow, and Reese Vogel all recorded RBI in the win. Melville allowed five runs (4 ER) on 10 hits across her eight innings, striking out eight along the way.
