Sevastopol Powers Past NEW Lutheran in Twinbill Sweep

Sevastopol completed a commanding doubleheader sweep of NEW Lutheran on Friday, using a combination of explosive offense and aggressive base running to secure 21-6 and 12-2 victories.

In the opener, Sevastopol overcame an early deficit and surged ahead with a big five-run first inning, setting the tone for a 21-6 rout. The Pioneers continued to build their lead with seven runs in the third and six more in the fourth, capitalizing on timely hitting and defensive miscues.

Connor Mueller and Hatcher Reetz each drove in three runs, while Roman LeClair added three hits from the bottom of the lineup. Sevastopol finished with 15 hits and drew nine walks, while also wreaking havoc on the base paths with 14 stolen bases.

Bo Tanck earned the win, allowing five runs over three innings, while Jack Haen added relief work.

Sevastopol carried that momentum into the second game, pulling away for a 12-2 win behind solid pitching and continued offensive pressure.

After falling behind early, the Pioneers took control in the second inning on an RBI double from Mueller and a two-run single by Tanck. They added three more runs in the third, aided by an error and a passed ball.

Logan Schuh earned the win, allowing two runs, none earned, over four innings. Nolan Schultz closed the game with three scoreless innings, striking out six.

Andrew Wiesner led the offense with two RBIs, while he and Tanck each collected two hits. Sevastopol again applied pressure on the bases, stealing six bags in the nightcap.

NEW Lutheran managed five hits in the second game, with Kenji Lange and Henry Kemper each driving in a run.

Sevastopol is scheduled to travel to Algoma for its next game, while NEW Lutheran will host the Pioneers in a rematch later this season.
