The Sevastopol softball team earned a pair of wins over their county rivals Gibraltar/Washington Island on Monday, winning their games 12-1 and 7-4.
In game one, the Pioneers turned a close game into a blowout with nine runs in the fifth inning to shorten the game to five inning. Leah Schopf's inside-the-park grand slam was the game's biggest blow to cap off a two-hit day. Taylor Kochanski went 3-3 and an RBI and Addison Wotacheck picked up two hits and two RBI. Schopf earned the win with five innings of one run (1 ER) softball, allowing nine hits while striking out six. Olivia Pelkey, Emilie Glocke, and Megan Gallant each had two hits in the Vikings' loss with Gallant's RBI single in the fifth inning the lone run scored. Mia Glocke took the loss from the circle, allowing eight runs (5 ER) on eight hits while striking out seven.
In game two, the Vikings outhit the Pioneers 8-6, but still needed a late run to tighten a 4-0 early advantage for the Pioneers. Schopf had another strong offensive game for the Pioneers, going 2-2 with three RBI while Alaina LeClair also registered two hits including a home run in the victory. Marin Gransee paced the Vikings with a 3-3 day, collecting an RBI along the way. Isla Fagundes also recorded a multi-hit day with two knocks. Schopf earned the win from the circle as she allowed three runs (2 ER) on eight hits while striking out five. Emilie Glocke took the loss, allowing seven runs (4 ER) on five hits across five innings.
