Sevastopol mounts fourth-quarter comeback through rainy weather Friday night

A turnover on downs from NEW Lutheran/Oneida Nation with two minutes left opened the door for a dramatic Sevastopol rally, and senior quarterback Logan Schuh delivered. Schuh scored the go-ahead touchdown on a 3-yard run with 36 seconds remaining, lifting the Pioneers to a 22-21 victory on a rainy Friday night.

Sevastopol got on the board first when Bo Tanck punched in a 5-yard touchdown midway through the first quarter. The Pioneers failed on the two-point try, and NEW Lutheran/Oneida Nation answered quickly with a 17-yard touchdown run and PAT to take a 7-6 lead. The Blazers added another score before halftime to build a 14-6 advantage at the break.

The wet conditions dictated the second half as footing and ball security became issues. Sevastopol missed a chance to even the game, and NEW Lutheran/Oneida Nation capitalized with a 97-yard drive to push its lead to 21-6 heading into the fourth quarter.

With their backs against the wall, the Pioneers struck back. Schuh connected with Reid Kacmarynski for a 91-yard touchdown pass with three minutes left, and the successful two-point conversion pulled Sevastopol within 21-14. The defense responded with a key stop, turning NEW Lutheran/Oneida Nation over on downs, and Schuh went back to work. A pair of deep completions set up the game-winning score, with Schuh keeping it himself for the 3-yard run.

Schuh finished with 160 rushing yards, 239 passing yards, and two total touchdowns, while Kacmarynski hauled in 160 receiving yards and a touchdown.

Sevastopol (5-2) handed NEW Lutheran/Oneida Nation (3-4) its first loss in four games and will close out the regular season at home against Rosholt next Friday at 7 p.m.
