The Sevastopol baseball could not keep pace with Iola-Scandinavia's offensive output on Wednesday, losing 8-0 in the regional semifinal.
The Pioneers were outhit 12-2 while Thunderbirds scored at least one run in every inning but the fifth inning. That includes two runs in the third inning and three more in the sixth inning. The Pioneers' biggest threats came in the second and sixth innings when they had two on with one out. After recording an out on a double steal in the second inning, Tyler Grooters singled to move Aidan Isaksen to third, but the pair were left stranded. Aidan Isaksen's double in the sixth inning put men at second and third with one out, but they were stranded when the Thunderbirds recorded a strike out and a ground out to end the threat.
Andrew Wiesner went 3.2 innings, allowing five runs (5 ER) on hits while striking out five.
The Thunderbirds move on to Thursday's regional final at Gibraltar/Washington Island. Game time is set for 4:30 p.m.
