Pioneers girls power down Wolves

Down early didn't knock out the Sevastopol girls basketball team as they rallied to beat Algoma 44-28 Friday night.

Down 10-3 in the first half, the Pioneers flipped the script by scoring 24 of the final 27 points to take a 27-13 lead in the locker room. The Pioneers' defense only ramped it up from there, allowing just four shots from the field in the second half.

Offensively, Naomi Rikkola gave the Wolves fits, scoring 27 points in the game, 21 of which came in the opening frame. No other Pioneers reached double figures, with Kayla Ranly and Brynn Schartner each chipping in with five points. No Wolves players crossed into double figures as they were led by Jadyn Nellis and Brooke Mattson with seven points and Sierra Slaby with six.

The Pioneers' next game will be on 105.1 The GOAT Tuesday night when they play at Gibraltar. Tim Kowols will have the call beginning at 5:45 p.m. with the tip-off set for 6 p.m.
