Defense helps Pioneers boys break streak vs. Gibraltar

The Sevastopol Pioneers boys basketball team shut down Gibraltar's offense in the second half to cruise to a 52-35 victory Thursday night in Institute.

 

The Pioneers held a five-point lead at the break before outscoring their northern rivals 26-14 in the second half to win their second straight Packerland Conference game and their first win over Gibraltar in nine tries. Bo Tanck helped the Pioneers jump out to its early lead with 11 of his 12 points coming in the first half. Zaul Valdivia was balanced in both stanza as he scored a game-high 21 points with three three-pointers to his credit. Logan Schuh also reached double figures with 10 points. Marco Jauregui led the Vikings with 13 points and Braden Kita added 10 points in the loss. The Pioneers' defense limited the Vikings to just six made shots from the field in the second half.
