Gibraltar, Sevastopol girls collide in WIAA Regional Semis on 96.7 WBDK, 105.1 The GOAT Friday

Two Door County teams are on a crash course for a berth in Saturday's girls' regional title game when Sevastopol hosts Gibraltar Friday night.

The Pioneers dominated Tuesday night in the opening round with a 65-7 win over the St. Thomas Aquinas Cavaliers in Institute. The Pioneers pulled away early and never looked back, as nine players tallied in the scoring column for Sevastopol. Head coach Ben Rikkola praised his defense just as much as his offense after it allowed the short-handed Cavaliers no points in the second half. Naomi Rikkola and Katie Spude had 12 points each for the Pioneers.

A McKailey Reisen putback with 6.5 seconds left in the game drowned out four years of agony in the WIAA Tournament as Gibraltar beat the higher-seeded Niagara Badgers 45-43. The Vikings were led in scoring with 15 points from Andie Schar, which was complemented by 12 points from Reisen and 10 points from Mikala Gorham. Head coach Evan DeBroux hopes the win gives the Vikings more confidence heading into Friday's game against the Pioneers, which beat them in both meetings this year by an average score of more than 40 points.

The game will air on 105.1 The GOAT with Tim Kowols, 96.7 WBDK with Bryan Mazur, and NEWRadioSportsNetwork.com beginning at 6:45 p.m. with the pregame show followed by the opening tip at 7 p.m.
