Pioneers win on senior night to capture share of Packerland crown

With two of its seniors sidelined by injury, the Sevastopol Pioneers girls' basketball team ensured senior night was a happy occasion with a 53-29 win over Peshtigo Thursday night.

 

The Pioneers jumped out to a 29-11 lead in the first half and outscored the Bulldogs by six to capture their second straight Packerland title and their fourth in school history. Kayla Ranly paced the Pioneers with 21 points as she drilled  four three-pointers, including three in the second half. Naomi Rikkola poured in 17 points of her while senior Katie Spude added seven points. Senior Kylee Duessler started the game in her final regular season home contest while classmates Libby Ash and Sam Herrell are sidelined with injuries. Holly Pesch led the Bulldogs with nine points while Audra Bauman chipped in with eight points.

 

In Division 5, #2 Sevastopol will host St. Thomas Aquinas on February 20th with a chance at a Packerland matchup on February 23rd if #10 Gibraltar can get past Niagara on the road.
