DCU enters three into state swim meet

The Door County United Boys continued to impress in the pool as they swam an amazing sectional meet at Ashwaubenon High School.  Best times marked the day, as well as three state-bid swims.

Here are the major highlights:

  • An epic two-second drop to place third in the 200 Medley Relay (Ezra Linnan, Jack Monfils, Luke Filar, Logan Filar) and earn a state berth at a time of 1:45.70. They head into state as the 14th seed overall. 
  • A podium finish and best time for George Atwell in the 200 Free with an eighth-place finish at 2:02.25, a full 14 seconds off his first race of the season.
  • An epic 200 IM performance from Monfils to place second and earn an individual state berth with a time of 2:00.53. He enters next weekend as an 8th seed and has the opportunity to break two minutes. 
  • Two great swims in the 50 Free to place seventh and twelfth, respectively. Logan Filar found his way to the podium with a season-best swim of 23.73, and Linnan had a personal-best time of 24.51. 
  • A follow-up stellar performance in the 100 Free, where we continued to bring in points with an eighth and fourteenth place finish. Logan Filar swam a season best of 51.83 and had a podium finish, and Luke Filar brought in a personal best at 55.48.
  • An outstanding 500 performance from Atwell to place the fourteenth and swim a personal best of 5:52.60. That’s a 41-second time drop since the first swim of the season!
  • An outstanding 200 Free Relay (Logan Filar, Linnan, Luke Filar, Monfils) with a season-best time of 1:35.48 to place seventh. Linnan swam a personal best 50 split of 24.00, and Luke Filar swam a split of 24.41. 
  • Two great swims in the 100 Back to place sixth and thirteenth overall. Linnan swam a personal best and had a podium finish at 1:00.04, and Luke Filar swam a great swim at 1:08.31. 
  • An automatic state bid and personal best swim from Monfils in his first-place finish on the 100 Breast with a time of 1:00.83. He enters next weekend as a fifth seed and is on the verge of breaking a minute! 

 

The small but fierce team of five took seventh overall in a field of 10, bringing in a total of 155 points.

Their next meet will be Friday, February 16, at Waukesha South for the D-2 State Championships. Swimming begins at 5:30, and doors for spectators open at 4:30.
