Pioneers conquer court against Eagles on U-102.1

Southern Door couldn’t stop the pursuit of Naomi Rikkola and Kayla Ranly on Monday night as they both would score over 20 points, with Sevastopol winning the game 52-33.

Sevastopol started the night on a good foot, taking control of the court early. Libby Ash didn’t hesitate to get the Pioneers an easy three points from behind the key to set the tone for the night. After Rikkola and Ranly scored a couple more points, the Eagles answered back with their own ferocity and closed the early lead to two points. Although the Eagles fought valiantly, with Sophia Counard getting nine points of her own, they were no match for Ranly’s defense, as she wrapped up the half with 12 points. By the time the buzzer rang for the half, the Eagles were looking at a score of 22-14.

The second half began, and the Pioneers refused to let off steam, continuing their march towards victory. Isabella Price defended under the hoop for the whole second half, scrapping her team up eight points from Sevastopol’s errant shots. No matter what the Eagles did, they were no match to the crushing defense pressure of Ranly and Rikkola’s relentless offense.

Both teams continue into the second half of their seasons with a lot to learn from this previous game and the rest to come.
