Sevastopol High School

Pioneers, Rangers battle Monday in boys' basketball

The Sevastopol Pioneers boys' basketball team looks to improve to 2-0 on the season when they host Wausaukee at 7:30 p.m. Monday.

Sevastopol started their season under superintendent Kyle Luedtke on the right note with a 39-30 win over Suring. The Pioneers took a 17-10 lead into the break and only grew it from there in the low-scoring affair. Logan Schuh and Damien Lardinois did most of the work, scoring 14 and 10 points on the night. Daniel Castillo added six points, while four others added at least two. Trent Vanderelzen paced the Eagles with eight points, as two others scored at least five.

The Rangers open their season against the Pioneers. Last year, they went 7-17 with a first-round exit to Gibraltar in the WIAA Tournament. Head coach Jon Betts will have his work cut out as he tries to replace his top three scorers from last year due to graduation.

Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m.
