Sevastopol High School

Pioneers girls welcome Eagles

The Sevastopol Pioneers and the Suring Eagles will matchup for their respective season openers on Tuesday in Institute.

It is a rematch of last year's regional semifinal that saw the Pioneers easily handle the Eagles 61-34. The Pioneers would finish their campaign 25-2, falling in the sectional semifinal to Wabeno-Laona. Despite losing their top scorer to graduation, Naomi Rikkola and Kayla Ranly also averaged double figures last year and could return to the roster again this year. The team is also expected to see Libby Ash, who participated in last year's WIAA State 3-Point Contest.

The loss to the Pioneers ended the season for the Eagles at 13-13 and extinguished the career of their top scorer, Christine Sleeter, who was averaging over 17 points a game and registered her 1000th point during the game. Bunny Cramer will be tasked with picking up the slack.
