Pioneers girls go the distance for two wins

The Sevastopol Pioneers girls' basketball team made the most of their three-hour-plus road trip over the last two days, picking up wins against Owen-Withee and Mellen on consecutive days.

 

In their 46-25 win over Owen-Withee on Friday, both teams struggled offensively in the first half before the Pioneers erupted for 30 points. Kayla Ranly and Naomi Rikkola led the way with 12 points while Bailey Rikkola chipped in 10 points. Kayla Rasmussen was the only member of Owen-Withee to reach double figures with 10 points, scoring all of them in the first half.

 

Saturday's game against Mellen, the Pioneers took a commanding 37-17 lead after the first half of play en route to a 64-35 victory. Four Pioneers players reached double figures, led by 19 points by Naomi Rikkola. Bailey Rikkola added 11 points while Libby Ash and Ranly chipped in 11 and 10 points respectively. Makenah Stricker and Britta Josephson each had 10 points in the loss for Mellen.
