Sevastopol High School

Pioneers Girls Basketball gear up for new season

The Sevastopol Pioneers Girls Basketball team will once again be a contender for the top of the Packerland Conference this season, as they get their practices and season underway.

Sevastopol will look to keep the success of the past season going, as they finished with a 18-8 overall record, and a 10-6 record in the conference. The Pioneers were led by Bailey Rikkola, and only had two seniors on the roster. Not only was Bailey impactful for Sevastopol, Naomi Rikkola played a big role for the team last season, averaging 11.3 points per game, adding to Bailey’s 16.5.

A relatively young team, the Pioneers look poised for another solid postseason trip, as they were defeated in the second round of the postseason last year, losing to Lourdes Academy by one point in a 40-39 defeat. Sevastopol had 3 players in the All-Conference teams last season, with Bailey Rikkola being first team, Naomi Rikkola being second team, and Libby Ash in the honorable mentions.

Sevastopol opens up their season hosting Suring, and opens up their conference play at home on November 29th against the Peshtigo Bulldogs.
