The Sevastopol Pioneers needed only one good quarter to completely turn the game around for them in a 54-14 homecoming victory over Gillett Friday night.
The Tigers shocked the Pioneers with 14 first-quarter points and shutting out the Pioneers through the first 12 minutes of play. The Pioneers' defense would pitch a shutout the rest of the way while the offense came alive. Ja ck de Young threw three touchdowns and ran for another to lead the Pioneers to a 34-point outburst in the second quarter. Cesar Sandoval would also take a punt back for a touchdown in the game's decisive second quarter.
Sandoval, de Young, and Atlee Manson would all score rushing touchdowns in the third quarter before the game went to a running clock in the fourth quarter.
The Pioneers could act as spoilers over the next two weeks with games against Algoma and Gibraltar.
