Volleyball: Pioneers crowned champs

The Sevastopol Pioneers swept through their regional tournament on their home court on Saturday and will advance to sectionals. In the first round, the Pioneers beat Southern Door in three seats, ending the Eagles season. Sevastopol broke down the Eagles in the first two sets, winning each of them 25-13. The third and final set was much closer, but Sevastopol would still get the victory, 25-22. Against the Eagles, Madi Volkmann had 19 kills, Emma Stueber contributed 20 assists and 3 serves, Bailey Rikkola had 18 digs and Bekah Andreae had 5 blocks. 

 

In the title game, Sevastopol was able to get their vengeance over Sturgeon Bay. In the game that had the most at stake, the Pioneers downed the Clippers in three sets. Sevastopol won set one 25-19, then won the following two 25-17. In the championship matchup, Sasha Laaksonen had 20 assists, Sam Differt had 13 kills, Madi Volkmann had 10 kills, Bailey Rikkola racked up 17 digs, and Zoe Kuehn had five blocks. 

 

With the wins the Pioneers are now a successful 13-3 on the season. They also advance to sectionals where they face Chilton on Tuesday.
