Volleyball: Pioneers complete season sweep, clinch Packerland share

In Thursday’s rubber match between Sevastopol High School and Gibraltar, Sevastopol wrapped up the regular season sweep with a win in three sets. The Packerland opponents went back and forth in the first set but Sevastopol would eventually end on top, 25-22. Set two would be more of the same up until the game was at a 15-15 tie. The Pioneers would pull away for a 25-18 win. Sevastopol would control the Vikings in the third set, winning 25-13.  For Sevastopol, Rebekah Andreae had 9 kills and 5 blocks, Sam Differt also had 9 kills, and Sasha Laakson was setting up many of those with 15 assists. Bailey Rikkola registered 21 digs.

This is the second win against Gibraltar for Sevastopol. The first match came on March 13 when the Pioneers would hang on for a win in five sets. The first meeting between these two teams did not count as a conference game, but this one did count towards each teams' conference record. The win clinched a share of the Packerland crown for the Pioneers, and they are 4-0 in conference. With the victory, Sevastopol inches closer to ten wins. Their record is 9-2 on the season.

Gibraltar came into the game with wins in four of their last five, and will fall to 5-5. The Pioneers next game will be on Monday when they visit Southern Door. Game time is scheduled for 7:00 PM.
