Sevastopol High School

Pioneers get big win

Coming off just their second loss of the season, the Sevastopol High School Volleyball team was able to get back on the winning side quickly on Monday night. After being defeated in four sets to Sturgeon Bay, Sevastopol would come out firing against the Southern Door High School Eagles in route to a three set sweep.

The First set would be a 25-18 victory, and that is as close as it got. The next two sets would both be won by the Pioneers, 25-11.  Sevastopol would get wealthy contributions from a number of players. Sasha Laaksonen would have 4 aces and also 23 assists. On the receiving ends were Madi Volkmann and Johanna Andreae with 11 kills each. Bailey Rikkola added 10 digs. With the victory, the Pioneers are now 7-2 overall this season and 4-1 in conference play.

The win was important for Sevastopol, who now holds a lead over Southern Door in the standings. Coming into Monday’s game, the two teams were tied with Sturgeon Bay for first in the Packerland conference. With the victory, Sevastopol and Sturgeon Bay now hold a share of the Packerland lead. The Pioneers will host Tigerton in a non-conference affair on Tuesday at 7:00 P.M.
