Volleyball: Pioneers cool off

Sevastopol’s six game run came to a halt against Sturgeon Bay on Thursday when they lost in four sets. Sturgeon Bay dominated the first set, but the remaining three sets all had a thinner margin. Sevastopol would fight back in set two with a 25-21 win. The Clippers would win close in the final two sets. In set three, Sevastopol fell behind in the match with a 25-23 loss. In set four the Pioneers gave Sturgeon Bay all they could handle but the Clippers came out on top 26-24, and that would be the end of the match. For the Pioneers Madi Volkmann had 10 kills and Bailey Rikkola had 12 of her own. Leading the way in assists was Sasha Laaksonen with 19.

 

The Pioneers will take on the Southern Door Eagles in their home gym on Monday. They are now 6-2. The Clippers’ record is now 5-3 and they will travel to Algoma on Monday for a conference matchup. Both games have a 7:00 P.M. start time. The two teams meet again at Sturgeon Bay High School on April 5th.
