Pioneer boys pound Tigers

A 47-point offensive outburst by the Sevastopol Pioneers helped lead its boys' basketball team to a 73-53 win over visiting Tigerton on Monday night in Institute.

The two teams kept it close early, but the Tigers scored five unanswered points in the final three minutes to give them the 32-26 advantage at the break. It was all Pioneers after that as they outscored the Tigers 47-21 after halftime. The Pioneers opened the frame on an 11-3 run and closed it out on a 12-0 run. Cole Dvorak led the Pioneers with 21 points while Logan Beyer (15), Jack DeYoung (13) and Hunter Bemmann (11) also reached double figures. Kaeden Miller led the Tigers with 23 points in the loss.

The Pioneers will have to bounce back quickly as they play at Sturgeon Bay Tuesday night at 7:30 p.m.
