Sevastopol High School

Activity level downgrade could lead to sports

Athletic teams at Sevastopol and other Door County schools got good news from the Wisconsin Department of Health Services this week.

The COVID-19 activity level in Door County has been lowered to moderate, which makes it one of just eight counties that can make that claim. It allows schools in the Packerland Conference, which includes the Pioneers and county rivals Southern Door, Sturgeon Bay, and Gibraltar, to compete.

They would likely have to compete among themselves in Door County however since they are only allowed to participate against other Packerland Conference opponents. The counties of Brown, Kewaunee, Oconto, and Marinette remain in the high category. It means the Pioneers do not have an eight-man football opponent to play and Southern Door is in the same boat on the 11-man side. All four Door County schools are allowing their cross country teams to compete this fall while Sevastopol and Southern Door are allowing their volleyball teams to participate.
