Spartans bounced by Port Washington on 104.1 WRLU

Luxemburg Casco's football season has come to an end, as the Port Washington Pirates sailed past the Spartans by a 47-13 score as heard on 104.1 WRLU.

Known for its passing attack, the Pirates ground game scored the first two touchdowns, as Mason Schwanz capped off the opening drive with a 10 yard touchdown carry, followed by a 1 yard score by QB Jack Bunyan after forcing a quick LC punt.  The Spartans were forced to punt on its second possession as well, and Port Washington finally scored with the aerial arsenal, as Bunyan connected with Aedyn Brownmiller for a 2 yard score, grabbing a 21-0 lead.  Luxemburg Casco's ensuing drive came up empty after a turnover on downs, leading to another Bunyan touchdown pass, this time going to Kiya Sullivan for the score. The Spartans blocked the ensuing extra point and hoped to capitalize on the momentum, but Eli Derenne's pass was intercepted by Kade Kintop.  Kintop returned the interception for a touchdown, but was called back for holding. LC's defense held together to force a 4th down, leading to a Grayson Allen 33 yard field goal attempt, which the Spartans were also able to block. Unfortunately, the offense couldn't find the endzone, as another drive ended after being unable to convert on 4th down.  The first half came to an end with Port Washington holding a 27-0 advantage, after being unable to add on in the waning seconds before the break.

Luxemburg Casco got the opening drive of the half, and were marching down the field until Derenne and Ben Klass struggled with the exchange on the read option play, leading to a Spartans fumble.  LC got the ball back quickly though, as Ethan Werner picked off a Bunyan pass after Talon Tassoul popped the Pirates passer.  The turnover streak continued though, as Kintop came up with another interception, returning this one for a touchdown without a penalty.  LC did stop the  two point conversion, preventing a running clock for the time being.  The Spartans were forced to punt on their next drive leading to another Bunyan touchdown pass, this time going to Schwanz from 3 yards out to go up 40-0, ensuring a running clock for the remainder of the contest.  The Pirates went to their reserves, as backup running back Max Zillman took a 6 yard carry into the endzone to give the home team a 47-0 advantage.  Eli Derenne got one last drive at the helm of the Spartans offense, capping off his career with a 17 yard touchdown run to get Luxemburg Casco on the board.  The Spartans were able to recover a Jacob Walton onside kick, putting in their reserves, with Max Crine finding the endzone on a 5 yard carry, with senior kicker Wyatt Bailey hitting the extra point to cap off his career.   Due to the running clock, after the kickoff Port Washington did not have to run a play, as the game came to an end.

Port Washington's season will continue next Friday, hosting Plymouth, who took down Winneconne 35-23.

As for the Spartans, their season ends with a 7-4 season, and the team will say goodbye to  10 seniors: Tatem Klabauf, Eli Derenne, Lane Ledvina, Joey Jeanquart, Wyatt Bailey, Isaac Schafer, Max Crine, Jacob Walton, Julian Bailey, and Ethan Werner.
