A trip back to the Resch Center will have to wait a year for the Luxemburg-Casco volleyball team after they fell in their sectional semi-final to top-ranked Fox Valley Lutheran 3-1.
The Spartans bounced back from dropping their first set 25-13 to tie the match with a 25-20 second-set win. Head coach Jeff Frey said the third set was key as the Foxes took control of the match from there, winning the final two sets 25-23 and 25-18. " It was a game of runs; that 3rd set was huge," Frey said. "We needed to find a way to finish that one. When we didn’t, that flipped all the momentum back their way."
The Spartans were led by Claire Schleis (25 assists), Stella Schleis (13 assists, 12 digs), Aubrey Frey (31 kills, 13 digs, 2 aces), and Jenna Annoye (11 digs).
Frey was proud of how the season went, despite the end result. "We had a heck of season, and while the loss hurts, it doesn’t define them as players or people, beyond proud of them."
The loss means the Spartans say goodbye to another heralded senior class: Aubrey Frey, Claire Schleis, Jenna Annoye, Olivia Thiry, Caitlin Price, Cadence Jacobson, and MJ Olson.
