Luxemburg-Casco gets revenge on Oconto Falls, captures regional championship

Two weeks after Oconto Falls denied Luxemburg-Casco a North Eastern Conference championship, the Spartans returned the favor Saturday night, defeating the Panthers 3-1 to capture a WIAA girls volleyball regional championship.

Luxemburg-Casco entered the matchup looking to avenge a 3-1 loss to Oconto Falls, which had ended the Spartans' hopes of a conference title. This time, Luxemburg-Casco came out on top against the 35-5 Panthers.

After dropping a tight opening set 27-25, the Spartans responded with three consecutive wins, 25-18, 25-20 and 25-18, to secure the regional title and improve to 24-15.

Aubrey Frey led Luxemburg-Casco with 24 kills, 20 digs and two aces. Claire Schleis added 16 kills, 23 assists, eight digs and three aces, while Stella Schleis recorded 21 assists and seven digs.

Ali Jansen contributed 11 kills and nine digs, while Jenna Annoye finished with 18 digs and three aces.

Following the victory, Luxemburg-Casco's coaching staff praised the team's determination and unity.

"After two weeks ago when they beat us, we talked about playing with a chip on our shoulder, and we did tonight," the coaching staff said. "We were so connected, played as a team, and showed so much selflessness tonight."

The Spartans advance to the WIAA sectional semifinals, where they will face Fox Valley Lutheran on Thursday, Oct. 29, at 7 p.m. at Fox Valley Lutheran.
