Spartans claim Cow Bell on 104.1 WRLU

Category: Local Sports

Luxemburg Casco made history on Friday night, winning the first ever matchup for "The Cow Bell" a traveling trophy that will go to the winner of Denmark and LC.  The Spartans sent their seniors off on a high note, winning the regular season finale 35-0 as heard on 104.1 WRLU.

Luxemburg Casco got the opening kickoff and went down the field in short order, as Eli Derenne connected with Calvin Jandrain for a 21 yard touchdown pass.  The Spartans special teams backed Denmark up deep into its own territory and took advantage of a short field after a bad punt. Benjamin Klass found the endzone for a 1 yard score to give LC a 14-0 lead after Wyatt Bailey's PAT kick.  Denmark got the ball and once again, went 3 and out with the Spartans getting excellent field position once again.  This time Derenne ran for a score, capping off the drive with a 5 yard touchdown run.  Neither team found the endzone for the remainder of the first half, as the Spartans defense managed to force a pair of Vikings fumbles, but couldn't capitalize with a pair of turnover on downs.  LC went into the halftime break with a 21-0 lead.

After the teams took the field, the Spartans defense forced a quick punt. LC got the ball deep in its own territory, but Derenne found the endzone quickly, toting the ball 82 yards for his second touchdown of the contest. Denmark took the ensuing much and attempted to piece together a drive but got turned away, ending the possession on a turnover on downs. Derenne capped off an incredible regular season, with his third touchdown on the night, this time from 11 yards out.  It was running clock the rest of the way, as both teams exchanged empty possessions to close out the game.

Luxemburg Casco will await its playoff fate, as seeding is announced Saturday morning. The Spartans finish the regular season with a 6-3 record. Stay tuned to the NEW Radio Sports Network social media pages to see where the Spartans are playing next week.
