Spartans soccer silences Storm, face Truckers Thursday

The Luxemburg-Casco soccer team enters NEC play on Thursday when it welcomes Clintonville to town after beating Kewaunee on Tuesday 5-0.

The two teams played even in the first half before the Spartans broke through early and often in the second half. Elvin Mendoza broke the levee with a penalty kick in the 48th minute before Trevor Hunsaker scored 11 minutes later. Mendoza and Hunsaker each had two goals while Blake Barbiaux tallied the other. Barbiaux also had an assist while Connor Hart contributed two of his own.

Carson Koller did not make a save while his positional counterpart, Kewaunee goalkeeper Jay Kunesh, was forced to make 11.

The Truckers will come to Luxemburg on Thursday for a 6:30 p.m. first kick after opening their season with an 0-2-1 mark, including a 4-0 loss to Omro on Tuesday.

The Storm will play at Algoma at 4:30 p.m. The Wolves are 1-2 after dropping a 2-1 contest to Gibraltar/Sevastopol earlier in the week.
