After going 1-3 in a meet earlier in the week, the Luxemburg-Casco volleyball team responded with a strong second-place finish in the Beast of the Northeast Tournament over the weekend.

On Friday, the Spartans beat Pulaski 26-24, 25-20 and St. Mary’s Springs 25-13, 25-12 before falling to Edgar 21-25, 25-23, 7-15 in pool play. In bracket play on Saturday, the Spartans beat Manitowoc Lutheran 25-14, 25-21, Holmen 25-22, 25-21, and D.C Everest 21-25, 25-22, 15-4 before losing to Mosinee 14-25, 25-22, 10-15 in the championship match.

"It was a great weekend getting to play seven matches, and all the reps that came with all those matches," said head coach Jeff Frey. "I am really proud of the growth we showed from day one to day two.  I think we learned a lot about ourselves. Mosinee has a great team, but I loved the grit and fight we showed in both the semi-finals and championship matches."

Leading the way for the Spartans over the weekend were Claire Schleis (85 assists, 28 kills, 21 digs), Stella Schleis (48 assists, 24 digs), Aubrey Frey (91 kills, 46 digs, 11 aces), and Jenna Annoye (77 digs, 8 aces).
