Luxemburg-Casco had to rally late to continue its season and stave off one last Seymour rally as it defeated the Thunder 6-4 to clinch the regional title, as heard on 104.1 WRLU.
Seymour struck first when back-to-back singles to start the second inning came around to score. The first run scored on a groundout by Lyla Schwaler, followed by an RBI single by Ariana Brady. The Spartans threatened in the bottom of the frame but stranded a pair of runners. LC cut the deficit in half in the bottom of the third when Rylan Kaminski scored on a Stella Schleis sacrifice fly. The Spartans got the tying run into scoring position but could not bring her home.
Each team put runners on base in the middle innings but was unable to score until the bottom of the sixth. Schleis led off the frame with a single, sparking three straight hits to load the bases. Gracie Jandrin then drew a walk to tie the game. Seymour's Kendra Rottler battled back with a strikeout for the first out of the inning, setting the stage for Abigail Buckmaster.
Buckmaster ripped a line drive down the left-field line that landed fair and rolled into the corner, clearing the bases and giving the Spartans a 5-2 lead. Kaminski added an insurance run later in the inning to give LC a 6-2 advantage before the Spartans took the field in the seventh looking to close it out.
Seymour brought the tying run to the plate and scored twice in the inning but came up short as Aryah Krahn grounded into a fielder's choice to end the game.
