Spartans host baseball triangular

Luxemburg-Casco split a baseball triangular Saturday at home, knocking off Algoma before falling to unbeaten Kewaunee in the finale.

Ethan Engum set the tone in game one, going six strong innings and striking out nine in a 5-1 win over Algoma. Hudson Billings came on to close it out with a scoreless seventh. The Spartans spread the wealth offensively with six different players recording a hit, and four players driving in a run. Jacob Massey took the loss for Algoma while allowing just two runs on four hits over five innings.

Game two was a different story for the Spartans as they tackled a tough Storm team. Kewaunee jumped on Luxemburg-Casco early and never let up, rolling to an 8-1 win behind Jackson Walecka’s seven-strikeout performance over five innings. Diesel Bosdeck went 3-for-4 with two RBIs to lead the Kewaunee offense, and Waylon Delain and Connor Kilgore each drove in two as well. Ethan Werner’s solo homer in the first was a bright spot for the Spartans and drove in their only run.

Algoma and Kewaunee were also set to face off in the triangular, but no score was reported. Luxemburg-Casco hosts Escanaba on Wednesday. Kewaunee continues their unbeaten season.
